Black Girl Ventures Teams Up With Nike

The pandemic was a front row seat to the turmoil that many small businesses had to go through. Adding a layer to that challenge is the plight circling around the lack of access for Black and brown entrepreneurs. To be more specific, we are talking about the access to financial and social capital. Because numbers don’t lie, Black women are blazing their own trails and starting businesses at six times the national average (credit: BGV). Even though those numbers are an inspiring sign of the change, Black women actually receive LESS than 1% of venture capital funding. Black Girl Ventures is here to ‘disrupt the status quo’.

With Shelly Bell leading the charge, her creation of Black Girl Ventures, was to create a lane of accessibility for women. From humble beginnings in DC, Shelly has disrupted the narrative and paved the way for dreams to become reality.

To further the initiative of Black Girl Ventures, Nike has teamed up to support the movement and push the boundaries of the leering status quo. Looking at the initiative from the lens of the business woman as an elite athlete, Nike is supporting Black Girl Ventures through pushing the momentum and more funding for financial equity.
