These NYC Ladies are Creating Community with Jordan Women’s Collective

The Jordan Women’s Collective reminds us that the secret to building a lasting community is through action. Plan the event. Email that mentor. Take risks, dream big, and seek out fellow women who want to create alongside you. Legacy is built, not bought, and our culture is born from the indisputable experiences that make us all unique. 

The pulse of New York City is found within the women who represent it. The Jordan Women’s Collective hand selected women who have made big waves in the Empire State, gathering them together to celebrate the creative ties that bind them together. From a vintage clothing curator to a dating podcast host, the women of the New York City Cohort live and breathe the city that never sleeps.

The NYC Cohort ventured across the Big Apple together, celebrating New York culture and their collective milestones in work and life. From an upscale lunch at the black-owned Spanish and Italian eatery Vinatería in Harlem to a tour of women-led Jordan retailer Nohble in the Bronx, the group made their way across New York in style. A trip to Barclay’s Arena in Brooklyn gifted participants a once-in-a-lifetime experience: be introduced over the arena speakers by the official Barclays sports announcer. There, they got to meet Adina Erwin, the current GM of Barclays and one of very few women to have ever held the position.

The team then traveled to the Hamptons for an energizing weekend retreat at the Shou Sugi Ban House, a woman-owned private wellness sanctuary that focuses on the Japanese principles of openness and exploration. Contemporary artist Nina Chanel and former Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association Michele A. Roberts joined the group, offering connection and support as creative mentors. 

Activities and downtime at the retreat offered opportunities for personal reflection about each participant’s role in their community. For MADE Hoops sports mentor and youth advocate Chelsea Baez, discovering her place in the Collective took some meditation.

“I think going into the retreat, I knew we all thought similarly about community and impact, but I didn't understand why I was chosen to be a part of the collective,” said Baez. “I think now after being around the ladies and the brand, the answer is clear to me now. I questioned for a long time 'why me' in the collective, and now understand that impact and my love for community is deeper than what I'm able to see.”

The Jordan Women’s Collective continues to highlight the vibrant women who represent their cities in major ways. As the Jumpan continues to #createthecommunity through this initiative, we look forward to seeing the women that this collective will inspire for years to come. 

Jordan model and writer Marisa Bryant hopes to build up the women who come up after the collective through living by example. 

“I hope that my work leaves a cultural impact by simply reminding others that interconnectedness is longevity and in time love heals all,” says Bryant. “I hope I inspire people to love themselves and each other more. Being true to you and what you love will always take you to the greatest heights and anywhere you desire to go.”
