Lizzo's New Brand 'Yitty' is Bringing Juice to the Shapewear Game

Ever since her breakout hit “Good As Hell” hit the airwaves in 2016, Detroit-born pop singer Lizzo has been injecting us with big girl love. Standing tall at 5’10, Lizzo has become an international plus size icon and body positive advocate, sharing her journey of self-love and fabulousness through song.
Lizzo first took to social media to tease her new shapewear line ‘Yitty’ last week, hinting on instagram that she got a temporary booty tattoo of her latest career endeavor (oh how we wish it was permanent, Lizzo!). By now, the internet is abuzz about the size-inclusive brand as more photos and details of the collection have surfaced. Available in sizes XXS-6X, this line deviates from typical new ‘plus size’ brand releases that end at 3X. Panties, sports bras, bodysuits, hoodies, and biker shorts for the brand come in a variety of colors, all constructed of soft mesh and stretchy Fabletics spandex material.

Creating a comfortable, size-inclusive shapewear brand was inspired by Lizzo’s experiences as a curvy girl throughout adolescence and into adulthood. Named after the nickname her plus-sized auntie gave her as a child, “Yitty” was born out of frustration for restrictive garments meant to make big women appear smaller.
“I’ve been wearing shapewear- tight-pinching corsets and underwear bottoms- for a very long time; since I was in fifth or sixth grade,” said Lizzo. “It was really painful and I really felt that it shouldn’t be this way; we shouldn’t be ashamed of our bodies and we shouldn’t have to wear these contraptions to feel beautiful.”
